Piper of the Day… again!

I just got back from the Celtic Festival of Southern Maryland, where I emerged as the grade 2 piper of the day in the solo competitions. I placed first in piobaireachd (Masacre of Glencoe) and 2nd in the MSR (Major Manson at Clachanstrushal, Arniston Castle, Major David Manson). This is my second competition of the season, and the second time I’ve come away as piper of the day. Obviously, I’m pleased. K was again an excellent videographer and recorded my competitions, and those will be posted on YouTube once I get the videos processed.

Piper of the Day!

Just returned from the first competition of the season, and I must say I’m pleased. I left with the trophy for Grade 2 Piper of the Day (and yes, before you ask, I earned it instead of just leaving with it) and racked up a good number of year-end points. Not to mention that the Piper of the Day trophy is way cool. Score.

I had a good day on the boards, with a fifth place, two second places, and a first place (with AGL) out of 8 or 9 competitors. The fifth place was the result of a flat G and sharp F (they were nearly the same pitch, according to the judge) and a couple of fumbles that were a result of not playing the reel quite enough.

In general I’d say the feedback on my sheets was positive and useful, with specific points I can focus on to improve. I have to train my ear to tune those high hand notes, necessary for advancement to Grade 1.

K was able to record all of my competitions today (didn’t get any bands today, sorry), and I’ll begin adding videos as I get them off the camera and processed.
